Proposal for water taxis in Chalkis


First he had dropped the idea of water taxis operating in Chalkis former mayor Yiannis Spanos , many years ago and many laughed then. But there again faced topical. 

The president of the Municipal Community Chalkis Theodore Yannoukou the proposal as submitted to the operational program of the Municipality of Chalkis and the regional director Stamatis Gkavalis undertook to publish the details.   

Specifically in a statement , Mr. Gkavalis (photo below) states that he agrees with the suggestion of Mr. Yannoukou (photo left) for water transport, which can provide an important solution to the problem of city traffic by linking new municipal units (Anthidona, Lelantine, Aulis) with the center of the new municipality.     

In fact refers to details of the project, highlighting the following:

"The long coastline of both the Municipality of Chalkis and the Region of Central Greece provide the opportunity for broad and effective development of this mode of transport. 

If combined, even with developed tourist areas of Magnesia and the Northern Sporades may also pose a serious tool for the development of the tourism product of our regions and especially the island of Evia.

Under the legislation, Water taxis can be seen any boat over six feet which a speed greater than twenty knots and has a total capacity of over five tons (about eight passengers).

Almost all the Greek islands and many tourist sites successfully use water taxi, the premier example of Spetses where operated continuously for over twenty five years.

Local and regional authorities need to recognize and n 'exploit the potential of sea transport for both effectively meet local transportation needs and easier to attract new visitors, giving added value to the tourist product.

With low investment cost and with reasonable rates maritime transport can create new jobs, opening new fields of development of entrepreneurship. "
